Yusupha Ngum & the Affia Band is a genre-blending world music group based in Melbourne, Australia. Formed in 2016 by Gambian vocalist and songwriter Yusupha Ngum. The band fuses traditional west African rhythms with jazz, reggae, folk, pop, Afro beat and ska creating a powerful, energetic sound rooted in cultural storytelling and global unity.
Led by Yusupha, who is the son of the legendary Gambian singer Musa Ngum, the band’s music reflects messages of peace, togetherness and consciousness. Affia meaning peace in Arabic – is symbolic of peace love and harmony and the cultural diversity that shines through every performance.
Affia Band has performed across notable venues and festivals in Australia, bringing their uplifting energy and musical depth to audiences of all backgrounds. Their sound isn’t just heard, it’s felt.

Affia Band’s songs are a rich mix of tradition and innovation. Inspired by African roots and embraced by global sounds.
A highlight of their work is the song “Gaïndé”, released to celebrate Senegal’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The song became a regional hit in Senegal and Gambia, and gained enormous popularity in Australia.
